I am an American who lives in the UK, I have to fess up when people have occasionally presumed I am Canadian I have not hated it/rushed to correct them! They have a similiar attitude towards the good old USA here too, and maybe unsurprisingly given the UK/Canada connection many of the same problems politically. A once great healthcare system on its knees, yet still they are smug and passive aggressive with a bizarrely pig headed national pride considering the STATE of things here. I am sorry to hear Canada is struggling as well, it will be really sad if we lose nationalised healthcare and I don't think people have any idea how bad it will be it they do here. I appreciate you owning Canada's flaws, I can totally see why Canadians might feel superior to Americans but you eloquently point out that the country's own shortcomings get glossed over. Trudeau has always seemed terribly smug, and I felt terrible for families who were split up during the pandemic across the border. That was inhumane.
