I bet most male tourists looking for "a good time" really think deep down they can handle any situation despite any warnings. The same thing happens to Brits abroad in Europe - maybe less murders but muggings and pickpockets are rife. Unlike most women who grow up wary/looking out for danger if we are lucky/smart (which sucks but better alive than dead!). Hope you continue to stay safe and enjoy your travels!
