I can understand why it haunts you, it's heartbreaking but there was not much you could really do. If the authorities did intervene that day and she was taken into care there and then you still wouldn't have been allowed to take her home, understandable as that feeling was she would have been placed in the system. We can only hope someone there that day cared as much as you and it was more than a bad moment. Haunting as hell though.
