I can't remember but there was a big debate with a writer who had won awards for indigenous perspective writing that was found to be offensive and inauthentic. Ok this is going to bug me! I often felt a little weird about the writing of Louise Erdrich. Like, she's Native American (ish) but I feel like she takes up a whole lot of space that non-white N.A. writers could use in the industry. Like she's this odd comfortable face of it. Idk, I may be out of line but it has always been weird to me. I agree men writing women is often a problem if not well executed. I think Stephen King has some really weird moments in his writing to say the least when it comes to women. I am glad you give it such deep consideration with your own writing, there are many who do not.
