I was under the impression it was more Fincher's decision than Netflix's, but at least the door is open. Maybe they will lure him back if things get dire enough. Netflix have been fairly callous with the axe for a few years now, the cancellation of Santa Clarita Diet on a cliffhanger was particularly egregious, especially as the platform has few decent comedies. They seem determined to court the teenage market with endless bad films, and they don't promote new things with a wider audience potential much at all, it's very odd. At this point if they don't change direction and begin to reward audience loyalty they deserve to go down.
