An expat visit home left me dazed and confused

It all started so well. Three weeks ago. Mom’s house, Florida, a couple of beach days under my belt. Then I started getting that iffy sniffly “Oh no am I getting a cold?” feeling. I haven't had a real cold since Covid started. I have had a few weird, two day “not a cold” colds. I hoped it was one of those but within a few days I was erupting more snot than I ever thought possible and coughing so much at night I couldn’t sleep for more than ten-minute intervals.

I was sequestered in my Mom’s room so my husband could sleep. My aunt was pet sitting so her room was free (my aunt lives in my Mom’s house). I tried sleeping in my aunt’s room first but she has an old-fashioned window a.c. that blows cold air directly in your face. Her room was an addition to the house and doesn’t have the central air-con for some reason.

So my poor Mom slept in there with a pillow fort blocking the air. Don’t feel too sorry for her though, she had a tv in the…
