Loved this, Jill. I don't always have an excess of compassion when people are thorny with me, I admit I am probably more likely to shut down or close myself off. Your profession demands more (not that everyone in your shoes would have had your patience I am sure) and it's a heartening story that your kindness was worth the effort when it mattered most.
