Medium Needs to Do More for Publications Besides the Boost
The lack of cohesive community here is getting to me
Anyone who has ever been boosted knows the dramatic ups and downs of the experience. It’s so demoralizing to write numerous pieces and have them utterly flop after having a boosted “hit”. Even the ones that don’t flop barely buy you a cup of coffee these days.
A boost still does not feel the same to me or have the same ripple effect of the old viral piece here. It does not result in regular readers, and the overwhelm is real trying to comment and read people back and feeling like a failure for not being able to and all of it. Pre boost, a viral piece might be spread out over weeks or even months. Most of my boosts are done within three or four days. Which is fine, but it’s a very chaotic, exhausting kind of energy for me personally as a writer to have these extreme highs and long lulls in my reads.
Now I am learning and dealing with the effect the boost and bust game has on my publication as an editor. Last month was strong; we had a few boosts and I hope/think it created a slight ripple effect across the rest of the publication in terms of other articles being seen.
