My husband is in a very similar boat, worked for twenty years at same place and had the choice to cover two other jobs on top of his in a mass layoff or take redundancy, it was finally his breaking point. This is in the UK where they just pretend like these mass layoffs haven't happened, and we aren't eligible for any benefits because the threshold for having any savings and getting benefits here is crazy. It sucks. Glad you are making it work and hopefully things get better soon, you are right compassion is sorely lacking right now from people whose livelihoods haven't been affected by this.
