In “Writer Support*” news/emails this week, we learned Medium is demonetizing meta as of March. I admit I am surprised it took this long, as Tony threatened it right from the start of his reign and never delivered. I have had a love/hate affair with meta ever since I joined.

I enjoy informative/how to Medium, a lost art once perfected in these halls by largely departed(?) writers like Casey Boticello and JJ Pryor. Medium has never been great at telling us in detail how best to use the site as a new writer.

These weren’t how to’s about money, but about useful things like site functionality, how tags work, how to embed videos and links, add line spaces, and other fun stuff.

I also love humorous and state of the nation meta. Meta that is a check in, a little “Hey is anyone out there, is it just me experiencing this random thing?”. Meta for a long time functioned as blogging of a sort here, a place to casually let off some steam or share stories or whatever, which helped keep us connected.

As a former blogger it made me feel more comfortable in getting to know people here without the stress of having to find readers for whatever niche topic I was writing about. Because usually, there was always someone up to talk shop!
