A failed attempt at makeup time travel showed me I have to admit it’s time to change it up
I went through a phase as a blogger following all of the hip YouTube beauty vloggers but after a while, I realized that most of the advice and tutorials were simply not suitable for my 40ish face. Now at 47, I make a point of seeking out and subscribing to more mature beauty-focused gurus.
For me, it’s more helpful to see someone address the issues that 40+ faces have. I find it more relatable and less demoralizing to not set myself up to fail to achieve a look that most of the time won’t work on my face. I think we can still learn new tricks and have fun with makeup as we age, it just has to be adjusted a bit sometimes.
Everyone is unique and the benefit of aging is you do know what suits your face after a while. Some women magically develop gorgeous cheekbones in their forties and fifties, some women have a devoted skincare routine that makes their skin look glowy and amazing with minimal makeup.
But we are changing, and it can feel depressing at times if we expect ourselves to look exactly like we did in our twenties using the same old makeup routine.
