A girl is lagging

Me in Edinburgh a few years back, photo author

I lost track of time today and was going to publish an old draft for day fourteen(!) of my 30-day writing challenge. As anyone who read yesterday’s moan might know, I am not really feeling it here lately.

But then I realized just now that this will be my 100th Medium article. I feel like I should make an effort. I know some people reach this benchmark within a few months on Medium, but I am a bit more of a slowpoke, it has taken me almost a year and a half!

I had some really lovely “Medium friend” moments this week though that have made me feel truly grateful for the people I have met here. Emails from friends I have made here, and yesterday some very kind and thoughtful comments (which I still have to reply to sorry!) really lifted my mood.

It’s sometimes hard to keep going here when nothing is landing, and the community of writers supporting each other here the way they do is something I just wish the people at the top valued even a little bit instead of seemingly actively finding ways to make it harder to find one another. Anyway.

This year I am also especially grateful that Medium has been one of the few places where I have felt safe and supported in letting out/writing about my grief over my father’s passing in…
