Very relatable for me as someone whose estranged father died last year. My mother also grieved for him despite their long term separation/divorce, yet no one really rallied around us. Society has such a narrow and small idea of what grief looks like, how long it should last, who deserves it, it's awful. I also had someone close say something incredibly callous about my dad's death because of our estrangement, it's an easy out for people not to care or acknowledge other's pain I guess. So sorry your family went through this, thanks for sharing your experience.
