Weight lifting is so boring, I found it bearable at the gym because the machines made it (kind of) fun, but my hand weights are just dusty doorstops right now ngl! The simple numbers goal/trick really did work for me with the squats. It does feel good to know you can do them. Yoga and Pilates are good for strengthening without weights too, even just doing a few Yoga with Adriene's a week has surprised me with the subtle toning (admittedly I have slacked on this lately though!). I also love her bedtime yoga, she has 10 or 20 minute sessions that do wonders. :-)
