Wow, I get how weird and disappointing this must have been. I enjoy Sedaris's writing but have never seen him read. The only thing I would say in his defense is I think he has made quite a career as an anecdotalist/laugh deliverer when it comes to live appearances. Which doesn't excuse him being weird/objectifying or making fun of people either though. That's not cool. I would hope maybe that wasn't his intention if nothing else but yeah, disappointing. His writing varies in style but he can be pretty deep when he wants to be, it's too bad he doesn't go there - or maybe he did eventually if you had stuck out the rest of the evening, but I can understand why you cut your losses. I like Augusten Burroughs too, he is a bit less acidic I think. Glad the experience got you writing again if nothing else!
