Wow, you hung in there! Some Brits can be infuriatingly grumpy and self satisfied, they seem to make a point of knocking down/antagonizing American optimism for fun in my experience too. I never considered myself an optimist before I moved to this rainy rock! Glad your patatas bravas were satisfying anyway!
